Know Before You Go: Lake Placid Weather in June
Lake Placid sits at elevation in the Adirondacks — June mornings can be genuinely cold, and afternoon storms roll through fast. Pack for everything. A clear morning can become a downpour by noon. Layering is your best friend.

Common
Swim Gear
Open water swimming on Mirror Lake. We’ll run a swim skills clinic and a fully supported open water session. Wetsuits are strongly recommended given June water temps.
- Wetsuit — Strongly recommended. Mirror Lake runs ~65°F in June.
- Goggles (2 pairs) — One tinted for sun, one clear for overcast.
- Swim Cap — Silicone preferred for warmth. BPC caps available at camp.
- Tri Suit / Swimsuit — Wear under wetsuit for a smooth transition.
- Body Glide / Anti-Chafe — Apply before every open water swim.
- Wetsuit Bag + Towel — Hang your wetsuit to dry between sessions.
- Earplugs — Optional, cold water and ear sensitivity can be an issue.
Bike Gear
Saturday we ride the full LP Ironman course — marked and fully coach-supported. Pack for a long day in the Adirondacks with variable conditions.
- Bike — race-ready and freshly tuned before you leave home.
- Helmet (required) — must be worn for all riding, no exceptions.
- Cycling shoes + pedals — check cleat wear before leaving.
- Arm and leg warmers — early Adirondack starts are cold.
- Rain jacket or vest — lightweight, packable, non-negotiable.
- Flat kit (2 tubes/plugs, if tubeless) — CO2 or pump, tire levers.
- Hydration — plan for 2+ bottles on the bike at all times.
- Ride nutrition — gels, bars, chews — practice your race plan.
- GPS or bike computer — charged, with LP course loaded.
- Cycling sunglasses — tinted and clear lenses.
- Gloves — light pair for cold morning starts.
- Front and rear lights — charged.
Run Gear
Friday long run and a Saturday run off the bike. Bring your race shoes — this is the time to practice exactly what you’ll wear on race day.
- Running shoes (race pair) — don't break in new shoes at camp.
- Training shoes — bring a second pair (just in case).
- Run kit (multiple sets) — plan for 2 run sessions minimum.
- Tri Suit / Swimsuit — Wear under wetsuit for a smooth transition.
- Hat or visor — sun on the Mirror Lake run sections is real.
- Run sunglasses — lightweight, you'll want them on the lake runs.
- GPS watch — charged, with HR strap if you use one.

Coach Notes from the BPC Staff
- This is a training camp, not a race — execute sessions at appropriate effort
- Use your time with the coaches — come with specific questions or focus areas
- Hydration starts Wednesday — arrive already well-hydrated
- Tune your bike before you leave home — there are no bike shops on the Ironman course
- The open water clinic is for everyone — show up regardless of swim background
- Sleep is your most powerful recovery tool — the Adirondacks are dark and quiet, use it
